Banyan Tree

We redesigned Banyan Tree’s global official website, creating a comprehensive design system with a component-based structure. This scalable design system was then applied across multiple websites within the Banyan Tree Group, ensuring consistency in branding and user experience across all platforms.
MY ROLE

My role was to propose a component-based website structure adaptable for Banyan Tree’s sub-websites and to create digital design guidelines that build on their brand standards.

Working Process

Problem Statement
My client faced the challenge of restructuring and rebranding a large group of brands in the digital space. With over 15 sub-websites needing redesign, they struggled to maintain a cohesive structure across all sites. They needed a solution to manage the entire group’s websites consistently, allowing each region to follow core brand guidelines while expressing its unique visual identity. Additionally, they required an integrated approach to streamline their shared booking system and address the complexities of their back-office operations.
solutions
My team and I developed a component-based system that seamlessly connects the front-end and back-end. We designed a flexible set of components within a unified design system, allowing each sub-website to apply its own style and content while still adhering to overall design guidelines and functionality. With this powerful, consistent system, any future feature requirements can be met by designing a new component, which can then be applied across all sub-websites, ensuring efficiency and uniformity.
key points

This project was a success, providing an invaluable solution for large groups with multiple sub-brands managing their digital assets. We addressed the client’s primary pain points by simplifying website management within branding standards and improving back-office usability.

As the lead designer for the Banyan Tree website, I focused on crafting a user experience that reflects the brand’s commitment to luxury, sustainability, and transformative travel. The website supports multiple languages, including English, Chinese, and Korean, making it accessible to a global audience. Designed for both desktop and mobile, the site delivers a seamless experience across all devices, embodying Banyan Tree’s mission to inspire and welcome travelers worldwide.

Building on this success, my team and I are now applying this component-based design system with back-end integration for other clients, enabling them to efficiently manage cohesive, branded experiences across multiple sites.
